The IAU wishes to support qualified scientists to whom only limited means of support are available, e.g., colleagues from economically less privileged countries and young scientists (Section 3.9 of the Rules and Guidelines for IAU Scientific Meetings). An IAU grant should be the seed money in ensuring the participation of a selected beneficiary, including participants with young children, rather than adding comfort for colleagues whose attendance is already assured.
IAU General Assembly (GA) meetings travel grants are intended to cover in part expenses associated with the participant’s attendance during the respective entire meeting, including support for child care if needed. It is expected that the grantees will also attend other GA meetings. Requests for financial support are submitted by the individual IAU member using the specific GA IAU Grant Application Form prepared by the GA Scientific Organizing Committee. Full completion of the Application Form is mandatory, including submission of an Abstract, if relevant. Individual IAU grants to be paid by the LOC chairperson to recipients, upon their arrival and registration at the meeting, against the signature of a receipt.
How to apply:
If you wish to apply for the IAU GA meetings travel grant, please, consider following the necessary steps:
- Complete the GA registration with choosing the Bank Transfer payment option through the XXXI General Assembly website (you do not need to pay the registration fee at this moment);
- Submit at least one abstract to be eligible for the grant through the XXXI General Assembly website;
- Complete the specific GA IAU Grant Application Form online.
In case an applicant is not selected as a grantee of the IAU grant, the applicant will be asked to pay the early-bird registration fee after the notification.
